Introduction -
The Statue of Unity, a bronze statue honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister, was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 143rd anniversary of his birth. When Gujarat's Chief Minister, Modi first proposed the project on October 7, 2010, the project's foundation was officially laid on October 31, 2013.
Construction on the statue, which was created by Padma Bhushan laureate Ram V Sutar, started on October 31, 2014. The Rs 3,050-crore project, which spans 20,000 square metres and is encircled by a 12 square km man-made lake, was wholly sponsored by the state government.
The Statue of Unity is the highest statue in the world at 182 metres and base of 58 metres height.

The statue is situated on Sadhu Bet, a river island on the Narmada River close to Rajpipla, and it faces the Narmada Dam.
