Atal Tunnel - Longest Highway Tunnel above 10,000 feet

Introduction -

The horseshoe-shaped Atal Tunnel, commonly known as the Rohtang Tunnel, is a highway tunnel that connects Manali with the Lahaul-Spiti region. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tunnel, the world's longest tunnel above 10,000 feet, was built in the Pir Panjal ranges beneath the Rohtang Pass. It bears the former prime minister's name.

Since it provides secure, all-weather access to the remote areas and eventually with the rest of India, this famous tunnel in the Himalayas has changed the game for the districts like Lahaul and Spiti.
The north portal of the tunnel is located at Sissu in the Lahaul valley, standing at a height of 10,171 feet, while the south portal is close to Manali and is located at a height of 9840 feet.
